The Bugatti Veyron – the World’s Fastest Street-legal Car

The Bugatti Veyron - the World’s Fastest Street-legal Car

At its top speed, the tires will only last about 15 minutes but that’s okay because the fuel will only run for 12.

Bugatti Veyron

Those were the words of Top Gear’s host James May as he approached around 409 Km/h (253.5 mph); that’s one-third the speed of sound at sea level. This Bugatti model is as insane as it is brilliant. The engine can deliver up to a whopping 1001 horsepower and it has a total of ten radiators just to keep it cool. And in order to achieve top speed, the driver must insert the “top speed key” separate from the normal key used to start the engine. And even more, at around 220 km/h (140 mph), its wings and spoiler will deploy just to prevent the car from flying.

The price is no joking matter. For this kind of power you’d have to expect it will be very expensive and it is. After a 2 and half year or more waiting list, you’d have to pay around $1.5 million.

Environmentalists would find this car pointless and a waste of resources. Even most car-designers consider it to be ridiculously fast and childish. But entirely, petrolheads everywhere will always consider this as a great achievement for humanity. It is built for the same reasons why we send people to the moon or climb Mt. Everest. It is because we can. It is because we will never stop pushing the limits of our capabilities.
