BYD Car Models List

BYD Auto Co., Ltd. or shortly called as BYD, is an automobile manufacturer based in Xi’an, Shaaxi Province in China. They are a division owned by the BYD Company. The company purchased the Tsinchuan Automobile Company in 2002 and decided to run their own car company which led to the birth of BYD Auto Company in 2003.

BYD official logo of the company

BYD designs, manufactures, and sells buses and passenger cars under the BYD brand. They also have a partnership with Daimler AG which develops luxury cars under the Denza brand.

In 2013, BYD Auto was able to sell more than 500,000 passenger cars in China alone, grabbing the 10th place of bestselling brands in China.

BYD Auto was also considered as the world bestselling maker of highway light-duty plug-in electric vehicles in 2015. BYD Auto was able to sell over 60,000 plug-in hybrid and electric cars.

Related Other Chinese Car Brand Chang’an car models

In 2008, BYD Auto released the BYD F3DM in the market. This is their first mass-produced, plug-in hybrid vehicle. A year after, it was recorded that BYD Auto was able to sell more than 440,000 cars in China alone. Two-third of this high sales report was from their BYD F3 model. In 2009, they began exporting their cars to South America, Middle East, and Africa.

BYD Auto’s Qin plug-in hybrid ranked as the bestselling plug-in electric car in 2014. They launched this in the last quarter of 2013. It also ranked 7th on the world’s top 10 plug-in cars and continued to be a bestseller in China. The legacy pushed forward as the Qin was still considered the world’s second bestseller on plug-in hybrid cars in 2015.

BYD Tang DM-i Car Model

BYD Tang DM-i Car Model

The BYD Tang DM-i is a standout 7-seater midsize SUV that blends everyday practicality with advanced hybrid technology. At its core is BYD’s “Super DM-i” system, which pairs a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a powerful electric motor and the brand’s ultra-safe Blade Battery. This setup allows the Tang DM-i to travel up to 110 kilometers on pure electric drive and reach a combined range of around 1,160 kilometers, making long trips worry-free while keeping fuel consumption impressively low. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in about 7.5 seconds, balancing efficiency with performance. Beyond its powertrain, the Tang DM-i is designed with versatility in mind: flexible seating for seven, expandable cargo space, and a suite of modern comforts such as a massive 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen, premium audio, and a fully loaded DiPilot driver-assist system. It also supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, letting you power external devices straight from the car—a feature rarely found in its class. With sleek styling, strong safety features, and generous warranty coverage, the Tang DM-i isn’t just about driving—it’s about offering a smarter, more efficient lifestyle on the road.

Key Highlights & Unique Features

Super DM-i Powertrain with Turbocharged Range-Extender
The Tang DM-i uses BYD’s “Super DM-i” system: a 1.5 L turbocharged gasoline engine that acts as a generator (range-extender), paired with a permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor and a Blade battery.

– Electric-only range is about 110 km.

– Combined full range (tank + battery) is exceptionally high: about 1,160 km for the Philippine version.

– 0-100 km/h acceleration in ~7.5 seconds.

Blade Battery & Safety / Efficiency Features

– Uses BYD’s Blade Battery (Lithium Iron Phosphate chemistry), known for stability, safety, and good lifecycle.

– Multiple charging options: AC (~7 kW) and DC (~40 kW), with DC allowing faster charging (30-80?% in ~22-30 mins depending on source).

– Includes Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability — enabling the SUV to power external devices. This is still a relatively novel feature in this vehicle class.

Size, Seating, and Flexibility

– It’s a 7-seater midsize SUV, with flexible seating (2nd row split 60:40; 3rd row foldable) to maximize cargo when needed.

– Cargo capacity ranges widely depending on how seats are arranged: from ~235 L with all seats up, expanding to ~940 L or even ~1,655 L when rows are folded.

Exterior & Styling Cues

– Full LED lighting front and rear, power tailgate, roof rails, 20-inch alloy wheels.

– In some trim/colors, the vehicle has blacked-out trim (reduced chrome) for a more aggressive / sporty look (e.g. Moonstone Gray with darker accents) distinguishing it from more traditional trims.

Tech, Comfort & Safety

– Large infotainment screen (15.6? rotating touchscreen) plus a digital instrument cluster.

– Premium audio system (12 speakers, Dynaudio in PH spec).

– Fully loaded safety / driver-assist package (BYD’s DiPilot) including features like 360° camera with see-through mode, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, etc.

Warranty & Ownership Benefits

– Strong warranty coverage: Blade Battery (~8 years / 160,000 km), electric motor & control systems (~8 years / 150,000 km), plus vehicle warranty (~6 years / 150,000 km) in the Philippines.

– “Low total cost of ownership” is a key selling point, given fuel savings from hybrid/electric mode, fewer visits for PMS (periodic maintenance schedule), etc.

BYD Sealion 5 DM-i Model

BYD Sealion 5 DM-i Model

What makes the BYD Sealion 5 DM-i unique is how BYD has tailored its Super DM-i plug-in hybrid system for long real-world range while keeping it affordable and practical. The car uses a ~12.96 kWh Blade Battery allowing up to about 71 km pure electric range (NEDC), yet when you combine a full charge and a full tank of fuel, it can exceed 1,000 km total driving range — something many PHEVs struggle with in everyday driving conditions.

It also demonstrated this capability in a real test: across the so-called Luzon Loop (spanning diverse roads around the Philippine island of Luzon: city, highway, mountainous terrain) the Sealion 5 DM-i covered 1,409.7 km on a single battery charge plus a full tank, achieving fuel efficiency around 25.273 km/L. That shows this PHEV isn’t just good on paper — its “range anxieties” performance seems quite strong.

BYD eMAX 7 Superior Captain Car Model

BYD eMAX 7 Superior Captain Car Model

If you’re looking for an electric vehicle in the Philippines that offers roomy-family space, modern tech, and solid range — the BYD eMAX 7 Superior Captain is among the strongest options currently. The blend of captain-seating second row, premium comforts, advanced safety, and EV benefits makes it very competitive.

If you like, I can check ownership costs (annual energy cost, typical maintenance, battery warranty), real-world range tests in PH, and compare it with similar MPVs (EV or ICE) in the Philippines. Would you like that?

Why this is notable:

1. Most electric MPVs focus on practicality rather than long range; getting ~530 km in a 6-seater MPV is exceptional for its category here.

2. The “Blade Battery” is a distinctive BYD trademark—lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePO?) chemistry, designed for improved safety and longevity.

3. Combining MPV convenience (second-row captain seats, roomy cabin) with a long electric range fills a niche for families who want EV benefits and space. For example:

a. The Superior Captain variant has the 71.8 kWh battery + 204 PS + 310 Nm torque for the 530 km range.

b. The cabin is configured 2 + 2 + 2 seating (six seats) in this trim, distinguishing it from the 7-seater standard variant.

One caveat to keep in mind:

1. The quoted range (530 km) is NEDC (or similar favourable standard) — real-world will be lower depending on load, driving habits, climate/A/C use, terrain.

2. Some owners/commenters point out that third-row space in MPVs like this may still be tighter than ideal.

BYD Dolphin Car Model

BYD Dolphin Car Model

The BYD Dolphin uses the brand’s “Blade Battery” (a lithium-iron-phosphate or LFP chemistry) as standard, which has passed the rigorous nail-penetration test (a very demanding battery safety test) without emitting smoke or fire — making it one of the safest mass-produced EV batteries in its class.

Why this feature is particularly remarkable?

1. The Blade Battery’s flat rectangular cell design helps improve structural strength (cells serve as part of the car’s structural beam) and thermal performance.

2. Safety is emphasised: For example, the nail?penetration test simulates a severe internal short-circuit scenario (you’d normally expect fire or smoke) — but in this case the battery surfaces remained relatively cool (30-60 °C) and didn’t burn.

3. For an EV that is positioned more affordably (compared to premium EVs) the inclusion of this battery technology as standard gives strong “premium safety at a lower cost” appeal.

Some other interesting features of the Dolphin

1. Built on the e?Platform 3.0 for electric vehicles, which helps provide efficient packaging, improved driving dynamics and safety features.

2. It includes Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality: you can use the car’s battery to power external devices/appliances, which is a nice bonus for camping, outdoor use or power-outage scenarios.

3. The design theme called “Ocean Aesthetics” links to the name “Dolphin” — flowing exterior lines, short overhangs, large wheelbase for its class — all giving a spacious interior feel despite the compact exterior.

4. It’s been certified under stringent safety testing in export markets: for example, the European version notes that version exported was lengthened (to improve crash structure) to comply with the strict ANCAP 5-star rating protocols.

A caveat to keep in mind

1. While the battery technology is excellent and the safety claims are strong, real-world charging speed and range do vary. For example one user noted higher motorway consumption and slower charging in cold battery conditions.

2. As always with newer EVs and less-common models in certain regions (depending on your market), check local service network, parts availability, and whether the locally-sold version matches the specs of the global/ex-China version.

BYD M6

BYD M6 car model

The BYD M6 is a minivan designed and produced by BYD Auto, a Chinese car manufacturer. Its design was inspired by the Toyota Previa. It has two variations, a 2.0-liter and a 2.4-liter engine with three different transmissions.

Why this is noteworthy

1. The Blade Battery is a signature of BYD and the fact that this MPV (rather than just a compact or sedan) is using it highlights a push toward family-oriented EVs with strong safety credentials.

2. Most MPVs are ICE or hybrid; the M6 being an all-electric 7-seater with such battery safety features is relatively rare.

3. Safety in EVs often focuses on the battery: this particular test (nail penetration) is widely used to demonstrate battery robustness under severe stress. For the M6’s battery to pass that in marketing materials is a strong badge.

Some additional interesting details

1. The M6 offers variants with a 55.4 kWh battery (?420 km NEDC) and a 71.8 kWh battery (?530 km NEDC) in its Extended version.

2. It supports DC fast-charging rates up to ~115 kW in the higher spec.

3. It supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability (i.e., you can use the car’s battery to power external devices) in some markets.

4. Its design emphasises a “Dragon Face” styling with the flowing chrome strip, shoulder-wing air intake motifs, aiming to give the MPV a premium and distinctive look.

A caveat / Context

1. The quoted ranges (420 km / 530 km) are NEDC estimates — real-world will be lower given load, climate, driving habits, and terrain.

2. Because it’s a relatively new model (launched around 2024 in markets like Malaysia) long-term reliability or user-review data is still emerging.

3. The 7-seater MPV format means heavier weight and large size, so driving & efficiency dynamics differ from smaller EVs.

BYD F3DM

BYD F3DM

It was the world’s first mass-produced plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) when it went on sale in China on December 15, 2008.

Why this is significant?

1. The “DM” in F3DM stands for Dual Mode — meaning it can operate both as an all-electric vehicle (EV mode) and as a hybrid (gasoline + electric) seamlessly.

2. It used a LiFePO? (lithium iron phosphate) battery pack — a chemistry BYD emphasised for safety and durability (though with lower energy density compared to other lithium-ion types).

3. In EV mode it claimed up to ~100 km (~60 miles) of electric-only range under ideal conditions, with a total combined range (electric + petrol) of up to ~480 km (~300 miles) in hybrid mode.

Some extra interesting tidbits

1. It featured a roof-mounted solar panel (in some versions) that could provide power for accessories (radio, climate control) — an uncommon feature at the time.

2. Its drivetrain: two AC motors (one ~50 kW, another ~25 kW) plus a small 1.0-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine. The system allowed switching between EV mode and hybrid mode depending on battery state.

3. Despite its “first” status, sales were very modest: In its first year only 48 units sold (to government/corporate buyers in China) and it never quite achieved large volume.

A caveat / historical context

1. Although it was the “first mass-produced PHEV”, its production and sales were very limited compared to later hybrids & EVs, so while pioneering, its commercial success was modest.

2. The “electric-only” and “combined” range figures were idealised and real-world performance would typically be lower (especially with load, climate, terrain).

3. Because it was launched early in the plug-in hybrid era (2008), some features (charging infrastructure, user awareness, service network) were still immature compared to today’s standards.
